Local fish store visit...
I tried to drive by my lfs this morning and my car automatically turned in!!
Since my 40 was still testing great after the intro of the Betta and the black neons and gold tetras last week, I decided I could probably add a few more today.
I saw the serpae tetras... couldn't remember what Gary said so I looked them up and the first three things I found said they would make a "peaceful" community tank member with five or more in a school so I got six. I also needed some cory cats since I apparently have been overfeeding the others in there and found more food than I should have on the bottom when I vacuumed the tank yesterday. They only had albino ones in the size I wanted and I am not fond of albino anything so I ended up getting six TINY little bronze baby ones.
When I put them in the tank I released the corys first, then the tetras. Three of those tetras immediately took off after a cory and I was panicked wondering how I was going to net six of EITHER species to get them out of there. As I watched further, they did stop chasing and all seemed well so I did some more reading.
Apparently, from what I am reading, they are okay in a large enough school, ie 6 or more. That is exactly what I found with the black skirts so I guess I am fine. Corys certainly are not going to provoke them so it should be fine. They seem okay with the black neons and the gold tetras as well, in fact don't seem to even notice them.
While I was there I also got some assassin snails... my substrate in my 55 gallon is filled with hundreds of tiny pond snails... such is the problem with live plants, I guess. The guy told me the assassins would be fighting a losing battle but I've already watched them annihilate at least three snails. I feel somewhat evil now!

It is always a great to visit the LFS, somewhat like going into a candy store ! I tend to spend at least an hour when I do get the chance to visit. I take my time looking through the tanks and observing the fish. During one winter episode I spent almost a whole afternoon ...
I find that I tend to reminisce about the tanks that I used to have and the fish that provided so much pleasure. Other times I just like to observe and learn. Every visit is quite an adventure and I share your sense of wonder !

I went out today feeling pretty good about that fact that I was not going to buy anything. I visited three stores and came back with, filter inserts, frozen turtle food, turtle sticks, dog food, cat food, 60Lbs of salt and a big hole in my pocket where my money used to be.
Oh well so much for not buying anything.

Oh my FISH TANKS!!! One of the girls that works for me has a 30 gallon hexagon tank that I have been admiring for ages... she is bringing it over to me tomorrow!!!! For taking it I have to take her three goldfish (originally mine from my pond anyway) and her pleco.
I am afraid I will have to take down a smaller tank in order to have room for that one... we shall see. Looks like I will be visiting the lfs more often!!!

No plans right now because I have no place to put another tank unless I remove one of the smaller ones, which will mean I will have to put those fish in it. (Maybe with a few additions???
)
