My 150 gallon project...
Finally got the tank... I had prepared the platform to handle the 1500 lbs of weight.... 3/4" plywood with 1 x 3 grid in the middle glued and screwed.. the main platform support is 2 x 6 and designed to distribute the weight. Next weekend I will work on installing the filtration system then start the aquascaping and prepare to plant the vegetation. then I will be ready to fill the tank..

Re: My 150 gallon project...
Thanks... it should turn out nice. The guys at Concept Aquariums in Calgary built it for me it has the Euro bracing for strength, Starfire on the 2 facing sides. 5/8" thick glass on the bottom the rest is 1/2 " . I used yoga mat material between the bottom glass and the plywood. I have to run the electrical plugs under the tank this week and get ready to put the soil and sand in this weekend... then it will be time to talk to the Plant Guy..

Whoa. That is a big tank. What sort of plants are you going to go with?

not entirely sure, I have to do some more research on the different types... My intention is to plant only 50 % of the floor and use white sand between a couple patches of planted areas. I like the look of the larger rounded leaves like Anubias Petite some low clover type cover and maybe some weeping moss.... I know what I want it to look like but have to figure out what plants I need to get that look...

Re: My 150 gallon project...
I have 3 nice pieces of driftwood I am soaking right now trying to waterlog them. the log and the stump are going to be the center of my 2 islands the branch will extend from the back corner towards the front. the stump island plants will be different that the log island plants. I intend to use white sand between the islands. I am going to use Stained glass sheets inside the tank on the inside walls in an attempt to give the tank a deeper look that it is... The stained glass will be a blue or blue green and hopefully I can find some that is darker in one corner that the top.
I could change all this as I go but this is what I vision...

The tank looks great so far. I like the idea of stained glass to give the illusion of depth.

Re: My 150 gallon project...
Thanks very much...
I decided to use the stained glass outside the tank instead of the inside. bought the glass and now have to experiment to get the effect I am looking for. That is what is next on the project. going to work on that next weekend..

Its starting to look really good and the stained glass will be interesting to see.
I have little imagination so will have to wait till you are done.

Re: My 150 gallon project...
Still no fish but the plants are doing good... Going to take a while for it to balance out, ammonia is high, PH is good, algae is a bit heavy.... got to change the heck out of the water... exercise in patience but enjoying it..

Re: My 150 gallon project...
I see considerable growth so the algae can't be that bad. What kind of algae are you having?

Re: My 150 gallon project...
the plants are growing well.... the algae tints the water green but doesn't stick on the glass or other stuff... I'm thinking a few water changes may help clear it up...

Re: My 150 gallon project...
I did a 50% water change yesterday and it looks very nice... minimal algae...
Today I'm working on the background...I used silicone to attach the stained glass to the surface of the mirror one it sets I will slide them on the outside of the tank sides that face the wall...I'll put a couple pictures up later...

The last picture is the end result? It looks like a painting; very natural! I love it.
