the CAC auction is back up...
For those of you who never caught the URL below Jay's signature and I assume that is everyone, looks like Jay has found a way to relaunch the CAC auction.

Nice. I won't be auctioning anything this Fall, as it's cold for shipping, but come Spring, I hope to have a full slate of things available.

It's quite expanded with listings for Aquarium Clubs, private aqua websites etc in addition to auctions. It looks pretty sharp.

looks cool, no forum though eh? Guess that was what this place was created for eh?

I'm sure Jay has no intention of starting a new forum that would compete with this one and fracture our group. Without putting words in his mouth, the new CAC auction site is to compliment the new forum. I have never used the CAC auction, but probably will come Spring.vince0 wrote:looks cool, no forum though eh? Guess that was what this place was created for eh?
This forum is our new home and the auction is just an added bonus.

I really like the auction. It's not a money thing - by the time you buy packing materials, build boxes, get bags, pack the fish, drive to the Post Office, and drive home again, you probably average about a quarter of minumum wage per hour. We auction to subsidize Canada Post, if we look at it as a money thing.
It's the distribution and the networking. I'm mainly a seller, because I have been in the hobby a long time and used to have a high profile. I have contacts, and access to rare fish, and I like to breed them. I like others to have them, since it's people who share with me who let me have all this fun of getting the rarities.
It's all networking for what I believe is the heart and soul of this pastime - learning. I may look crazy saying that about putting little fish in a glass box, but I stand by it. There is an enormous amount to be learned outside the box, inspired by the questions we ask ourselves about the things we keep.
And beyond the big stuff, it's just easy to like fish, and to want to see more of them. I like hands on learning - most aquarists do. Jay taking the time and effort (and money) to put the auction up means that as we discuss various fish that look cool but may not be available in our local pet stores, the possibility of actually keeping some becomes real.
That's a real service to the aquarium hobby.

So will we need to create new logins, or will the old ones work? I have no tank room right now for new inhabitants but it's nice to browse the plants and things.

I am very happy to see the CAC Auction back up ! In Canada this may be our only universal trading site and I am really looking forward to seeing the site perpetuate. Very good news indeed !

That's exactly right, Steve. We have a forum and a great place to hang out to talk about fish here at CAA. We owe a great many thanks to msausage (CanadaAquariaAdmin) for making this happen. The new CAC site is designed to complement CAA as an auction/link/resource site.Sbenson11 wrote:I'm sure Jay has no intention of starting a new forum that would compete with this one and fracture our group. What no room? Another tank would take care of that.ownedbycats wrote:So will we need to create new logins, or will the old ones work? I have no tank room right now for new inhabitants but it's nice to browse the plants and things.
To answer your question, yes, you do have to re-register on the new CAC site list or buy anything.

This is great news Jay. What a huge resource it is!

I just put up some plant auctions. Anybody else that is thinking of selling something or too busy with the summer and holidays?

I have listed quite a few not long ago, but the last few auctions I had up got no bites. Maybe I can try again as I have new plant species to list as well.

Yes I have listed and will continue to post on the CAC Auction Site. My ads expired however but it was easy to set up and add photos.
