Stripey Update....
I posted this previous but not as a new topic
Good Morning! Stripey has taken what may be a bad turn...not sure...photos hopefully will be posted today sometime or tomorrow of my fish and their homes...but Stripey may be in his little hspt tank or home. They all ate this am and were fine about an hr or so later he was sitting on the bottom of the tank...just sitting there
I placed him in a breeder box...within a few minutes he was swimming...so I released him back into the larger tank
Now he is sitting on the bottom again so I have put him back in the breeder box...appears again to be swimming and looks fine, I believe.
A bit of a mystery to me as I am truly just a beginner at all of this!
Ammonia levels are reading 0 and he resides in a 35 gallon tank with 2 other comets...again he is very small...the smallest of the 3...Just thought I would update
By for Now everyone!
further comments:
I have been encouraged to take him out of the breeder box which I have done
he swims about someX sits on the bottom somex...guess I will just wait and see
he is a fighter but obviously for some reason not as strong as he could or shoule be

Re: Stripey Update....
Sorry to hear Stripey is not doing well. Just to recap (and correct me if I am wrong on these points!):
-Stripey has been in the 35g for about 8 days, but you have had him for about two weeks, initially in a 10g
-You have been changing the water in the 35g about every second day (25-30%)
-Ammonia and nitrites are both reading 0
-Stripey got stuck on the filter the morning after introducing him to the 35g. His lips were swollen for about 2-3 hours, after which there was slight swelling, but nothing major; he looks normal now
-Stripey seemed fine for about 5 days after the incident, but now he is laying on the bottom on the tank
-You have had him in and out of the breeder box; he seems to swim better in the breeder box, as opposed to in the main tank
-Stripey is the smallest of the three fish in his tank
I am only recaping in hopes of ensuring members know all of the details so they can better help you out!

Re: Stripey Update....
yes on all points...
Stripey is currently in breeder box and swimming...has been in there most of the day...was fine this am...shortly after eating began sitting at the bottom...
beginning to truly believe he is a mystery!

Re: Stripey Update....
thank you....
My husband as well as my sister said that Stripey should not be in the breeder box....
so I have released him back into the tank
I will leave him there now and wait and see what happens...so far he is swimming again
it truly does appear to me though as if he is more content in the box....
as Shell indicated in her post he was on his own for the 1st week when coming to our home in a 10 gallon
since going into the 35 gallon things have appeared to go down hill...the other two comets were in the 35 gallon 1st but only by a few hrs...(they had been in a small tank together for approx 5 days...all 3 were placed in the 35 gallon on the same day )
thanks so much to everyone who has been so kind over the last week with your comments and suggestions
These little fish have become a central part of my life!!!!

Re: Stripey Update....
Thanks for the update, hopefully he will be fine. He is probably better off in the 35g tank.

Re: Stripey Update....
Have you noticed whether there is some bonding between the 2 comets? When I had 3 goldfish 2 paired up and pestered the 3rd basically to death...

Re: Stripey Update....
we just came in from church and found stripey gone...he died while we were at church
I have lost alot of sleep quite willingly and out of love and compassion for this little guy...guess he was a true fighter and had a great will to try and keep going...my husband and I and our 2 children are going to bury him now in our back yard...
Thanks everyone for your kindness

I am very sorry to hear that! If the other 2 are getting along well, I would refrain from adding a new one as it might face a similar fate...

Re: Stripey Update....
Oh no, sorry Stripey didn't make it - he was in good hands until the end. I know you loved the little guy to bits.

Re: Stripey Update....
That's to bad, unfortunately that happens from time to time.
However I have found over the years that the best way to get over this is to buy a new fish.

Re: Stripey Update....
yes there was obvious bonding between the other 2...it was noticeable
we definitely will not be adding another goldfish
my heart is not prepared to do this right now and our children are also grieving...

Re: Stripey Update....
Ha! I'm willing to bet that there will be more goldfish in your future! The sad truth is that there will always be some goldfish in need of new homes So when you are ready, there will be finned babies in need of your help. You have gone through a heartbreaking experience - maybe relax and focus on the little guys you have for a bit before introducing anymore. You have a big heart; we have that in commongoldfishbetalover wrote:Just saw the post re possibly getting a new fish! not certain how I missed it earlier...

Sorry to hear you lost him but it wasn't for the lack of trying to save him. You did your best.
