Struggling with MTS
So I just saw a 55 on craigslist for $30 ($50 with stand). There must be somewhere I can put this...how bad is it to put a tank in front of a window?

That is a good deal! Especially for Montreal.... Don't think twice! Putting it in front of a window is not bad as long as you take account of it with your plants/lighting.
The goldfish tank in the office receives light from the side and I have simply decided not to put on the lights anymore since the only plants a goldfish doesn't eat are low light plants.
This plus some potassium fertilisation ensures that the tank doesn't get more than the regular brown diatoms.

I put a café blind on the lower half of my two windows with tanks in front of them. Combined with a heavy background on the tank it works well. Those tanks don't have any more algae than an of the others.

Have you thought about using the 3rd dimension?! I can imagine a nice rack next to the tele....

Would it be safe on a rack? I guess a 10 isn't that heavy

I think you should be able to get something on Craigslist which looks like your current table but is more like a cabinet style.
You would only need to take the doors off.
Or you buy a book shelf and reinforce the shelves with angles. I did that successfully with an Ikea Ivar rack. They hold a 29 and 20 gallon each.
Have a look at this picture:

I shouldn't get ahead of myself. Don't even know if the tank's still available, or if I'll be able to arrange transportation. I think it might not fit in an average small car.

It will, on the back seat. It is 1.22 metres long, 30 cms deep and about 50 high.

Actually, while I have only a few tanks, I have less than 90 gallons in total. Don't worry, I got you beat on small gallonage syndrome.

46g Bow tank
29 g
10 g
Looks like you are at 85g. OK, yours looks smaller than mine. (Reminds me of a similar debate in the grade school boys washroom)
Well, your one tank probably looks better then my algae swamps. I am the Duke of BGA and Hairy Algae.

There is nothing wrong with having only 1 tank. It becomes more dubious if you have more tanks that are empty for a looonnnnnggggg time.....
But don't worry: we can do something about that!

Re: Struggling with MTS
I've been feeling inadequate with my 25 +10 (actually more like 8-9 cause I can't fill it all the way up!). Hopefully the new 55 will give me an ego boost

Should a concrete balcony be able to hold up the weight of 55 gallons of water on a temporary basis? I'm going to need to test this thing for leaks and I don't really want to put it in my bathtub
