Went shopping with my Friend....
Our 4 year old daughter and I went shopping with my girlfriend and her 4 year old son!!!! She left with more fish and 2 more 10 gallon tanks!
Her female Betta will remain in her 5.5 on her own
the other 2 tanks will become the home of their guuppies and the other the home for their Glow light Tetra's....So happy for them!
PS she said now that it is!!!! we'll wait and see!

WHAT? You didn't convince her to go BIG with the tank?!
I hope she joins our community, she'll be welcome and, I am willing to bet, she'll enjoy the ride

Re: Went shopping with my Friend....
Just as a note..... when people come into the store to buy fish and a new tank I do everything that I can (including the "you are doing something wrong" stare) to convince them to wait on buying fish until the tank has been set up for a few days. I will admit that I will set up a tank and add new fish sooner than I should sometimes, but I have more experience (and more aged water and bio/bacteria safety nets than the average person does).... so, please give new fish a better chance by having a tank properly set before making a purchase... just my 2 cents worth.....

I'm so glad she decided to provide homes for the fishies, and to provide seeded media for them all

Re: Went shopping with my Friend....
I sometimes like using the words of wisdom that our store owner uses.... and to quote him it goes like this...... " I make my living from selling fish. If I'm saying not to buy one, there it a pretty good reason for it".... I sometimes use this with customers but in the end the best that I can do is explain why and try educating them a bit so they understand what is happening and then make an informed decision.... and when I see them come back in a few days to start out properly it makes for a much better and longer relationship with them and the hobby....

Re: Went shopping with my Friend....
It was me who was shopping with her
The lady working in the shop suggested that she set the tanks up and wait a week before adding fish
I was the one who suggested the seeded media...which would allow her to bring the fish along with her today and provide them with the seeded media and the new tanks better than setting them up in tanks that were not cycled at all....
I highly doubt that she will join the forum as she has indicated that may not be interested
Thanks again for your input...

Re: Went shopping with my Friend....
The seeded material should certainly speed up the cycling process. She will still need to make sure she stays on top of frequent water changes, especially until the cycle is fully completed.
Glad to hear your friend is readily adopting the hobby. It's great you will be around to help her if need be.
