planted angelfish tank
I am going to be creating my dream tank. I would like a 55-75 gallon planted tank featuring angelfish. I have never done plants nor angelfish. I have done everything else though it seems. I finally bought a house with the room for such a tank. My questions are:
1. What is best substrate for plants? (preferably not dirt or sand)
2. What are the easiest and best plants?
3. What kind of lighting is needed?
4. What are safe tank mates?
5. What else am I missing?

Hi Barett,
as I consider myself still a rookie and no experience at all with angelfish I just give you a warm welcome to the forum for now and leave the advice giving to the experienced members here.
Good luck with your angel fish tank

Re: planted angelfish tank
Welcome to the pond.
I would go with Cory's of some kind then a couple of Bushy Nose, larger Tetras that's just some ideas for the tank remember they are a cichlid and can be a little on the aggressive with other fish some times. Use plants to provide escape places or hide behind and not to small a fish ie Neons as they may become prey.
Keep us informed as to your choices etc.
1-3 watts / gallon for lighting plant requirements will be different. and I will let some of the more experienced give more advice on what you need. Good luck and just to help use Flourish excel to help keep Algae down.

Re: planted angelfish tank
Hello,
I currently have a planted 90 gallon angel fish aquarium.
I am using dirt and on top of that there is a layer of pool filter sand.
There are a lot of good options for substrate, you just need to find out what works best for you.
The plants I have are plants that grow in any type of water and conditions.
I have red tiger lotus, hygrophila corymbosa angustifolia, Pigmy chain sword, various cryptocorynes, rotalas.. I have a big fixture on my aquarium but you can do without, if you don't have lots of lights, you don't need lots of ferts or co2, but you are limited in plant choice.
