Aquaclear 500 issue
I came home tonight to find the impeller came apart & got wedged in the hole that the water is sucked into the filter.
I had cleaned the filter about a week ago & there was a small steel shaft laying across the hole and didn't realize it was the shaft that held the impeller inplace.
So, until I get a new one, is the bio max going to be safe in a large plastic cup of the aquarium water?
I need to either see if Big Al's here has a shaft or somehow get my hands on another motor.

Re: Aquaclear 500 issue
The shaft fits into a small hole inside the motor. You might be able to reassamble it. It depends on whether running the filter with no shaft has destroyed the impeller, or damaged the hole the shaft fits in.
I find Aquaclears easy to repair, but you only get to replace one impeller shaft. it's rare to get a third one to fit properly. I ran one for 19 years though.
Assess the damage done - the parts are readily available. I paid about $5 for the last impeller shaft I bought. Yeah, just that little 2 cent metal stick...
The media needs moving water and a food source.
