Your experience on Purigen?
Guys and Gals,
I have a question concerning a product available on the market.
It is called Purigen.
I have read that it can interfere with nutrients available to plants since it breaks down organic waste before it converts to ammonia.
I have read a lot of conflicting reports, some people say it's not true, some say it's true.
I want facts from people who tried it in a dirted tank, and want to know if you dose fertlisers at all?
Thanks!

Cant tell you the benefit or lack of, in a dirted tank. I can tell you it does far less than Seachem claims. It has no effect on ammonia or nitrite, and only delays the production of nitrate. AND, once exhausted, turning a dark brown or even black, if you dont recharge right away, you get a nitrate bomb in your tank. My opinion is also that it takes up room in the filter better used for tried and true bio media.. quality ceramics. I have heard the claim that it does help people with high nitrate in their source water. Mostly well water with active farm/livestock nearby. Simple, effective mechanical and bio filtration, combined with adequate water changes will most always equal a healthy tank and fish. Save your money and time is my advice.

Re: Your experience on Purigen?
I had the remainer of a bottle given to me, just enough for my 77g tank.
I installed it yesterday night to see how well it does.
I have taken a before picture.
Will compare every week to see the difference.

I used it some years ago as people of a forum known to you were raving about how pristine the water was.
It didn't do anything noticeable for me and I found that it is quick to degenerate or in other words: you have to treat it to make it white so it will function again in your tank.
After having cleaned it once, I couldn't be bothered anymore.
