Yayyy!!KristaLynn wrote:They just got here, floating the bag. They are so tiny! It looks like he sent me 7.

Now the tricky part will be to sex them!

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
Just a little video of my new babies this morning, gave them some thawed brine shrimp & little bit of glass worms. I'm worried the food settled into the gravel before they got much, will they pick it out of there?

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
Yes well his ad said they were in a 20g planted tank and that he had them eating flakes and brine shrimp so I was hopeful. My mom did say he was nice and drove over to meet them were they where and didn't make them drive to him in the city so I guess he just sucks at communication.
If I remember my reading, the girls tend to have the bigger bellies so I'm hoping for a bunch of girls here because these are probably all related which won't be good if I do breed them.

Nice gudgeons!
The girls do have larger bellies, usually.
My male also has a large belly, but not as big as the females.
One sure way to tell which are females, which are males: The dorsal fin! Females will have a black line on top of the fin.
The male will have a face with a "stronger" jaw, the females are more bullet shaped.
That one is a male:

If you manage to have a picture of them I could help you identify them

These little guys are already coming out to see me, they are just so cute.
At this size I should probably feed twice a day?
No signs of black on any fins yet, hopefully that comes later and I don't have a batcherlor tank!

How does their head look like?

I feed them once a day, but that's because I feed mainly on frozen food, and it's really fat.

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
Today was the first day I fed them flakes, the flakes seemed to sink slower (I pinched them and released them under the water because I figured they wouldn't come up) and they seemed to get more to eat. But maybe they pick the brine shrimp out of the moss and gravel after I leave for work?

They will definitively pick out food from the moss, not sure about the gravel though...

you are lucky your gudgeons eat the flakes.
Mine barely wont touch it.

They seemed really excited about the flakes this morning so I'm worried they haven't been getting the brine shrimp.

Try adding a fish that does eat flakes but doesn't pose a risk for the gudgeons. Within a few days they will learn how to eat flakes.

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
The gudgeons are already in with fishes that eat pellets/flakes... Maybe with a little bit more patience.
Re: You've got to be kidding me.
I'm no help, mine came trained to eat flakes.

Okay now that they are a little older I for sure see one male so far the rest look female. We will see if one of those is a late blooming male or just all girls.

Cool! One male for all of these female is perfectly fine. One more male would definitely be nicer tho. But!! Still real fine!
Re: You've got to be kidding me.
I wouldn't mind getting the second male from a different source to have some genetic diversity incase I decide to breed.

These guys sound great - nice video you got of them.
It would be excellent if you lucked out and have mostly females in there. Looking forward to seeing more videos and/or pics of you new additions!

They look so active!! It's crazy! :O
Mine are definitely more calm than this.
Probably because there is a large gourami hovering above lol..

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
Yes mine only have a few snails in with them so they have nothing to fear. I'm not sure for how long but for now this will just be their tank.

I bet they are really happy!
Have you got a defenitive count on your male/female ratio?

Re: You've got to be kidding me.
So far it looks like just Brutus! I'm toying with the idea of getting a trio from Spencer Jack if he gets some this summer and moving Brutus with the new girls to the 10g and putting the new boy in with all of Brutus' sisters to get genetic diversity in case they do breed for me.
