Storing flake food

I felt bad about feeding my fish the tetramin flakes I originally got them, so I went out and bought a jar of new life spectrum. Unfortunately they only had a rather large jar. Well ok, it's only 1.6 oz but I have so few fish and they're so tiny that this amount of food will last them forever.

Would the food keep fresh for longer if I stuck most of it in the fridge or freezer, and just left out a small amount for immediate use? Or would freezing make it less good?

I buy food a couple of pounds at a time. From opening it loses in the first six months - I keep it in a ziplock freezer bag, in the freezer until use.

Now, it loses vitamins etc (and I have never tested that) but I have to say, fish still grow and look great with slightly older food. I always have kept at least three different types of food on hand, in rotation. It can be different brands of staple, or a vegetable, a growth, a staple and a colour food. What food you give depends on what fish you keep.

Even if you keep the fish food six months and pitch the remnants, three jars of fish food should cost you about what you'd need to feed a dog or a cat for a few days.

Haha I'm working on it! But it's hard to find fish I want to put in my tank...the shrimp also complicate things.

To give you a few ideas Orlon: I have recently seen ember tetras, threadfin rainbows and pseudomugil furcatus in our Mtl stores which all should do well with the shrimp.

I'd like to get more threadfins (three seems like too small a group) but I'm trying to hold out for females.

I've heard mixed reviews about the embers with shrimp. Some people have said they will form packs and hunt them down!

I do like the blue eyes but I'm thinking maybe I should try to get something a bit more colourful, especially now that I've got all these female endlers. They are pretty fish, but very plain of course.

I don't want to rush into getting fish and then find something I really want and not have any more room for it...although I am starting to wonder what to do with my 10g once the baby cherries grow a little bigger. I think I'm getting MTS symptoms lol
