canister filter output Empty canister filter output

Post by Biulu Mon May 18, 2015 8:00 pm

I noticed today that my canister filter was basically trickling instead of blasting out water like it normally does. So the first thing I did was to clean the filter and the pipes.

However, it hasn't gotten better. What else could I do to improve the flow?

Opening the impeller area was the solution! The impeller itself was not so dirty that it didn't turn anymore, but there was a blockage on the side where the water comes in. This was due to a dead fish, whose remains I had been looking for for 3 days.

Thanks fish lady!

canister filter output Empty Also having flow problems

I have a Sicce 200 Whale canister filter that I got used. It had hardly been used and was very clean. I have a 500 on my larger tank that works wonderfully, but this smaller one has a really poor output. I checked the impeller and it seemed OK but I cleaned around the well and everywhere I could think of. I have ordered a new impeller in case that is the problem, but in the meantime....any suggestions?

Maybe it is just too small for a 30 gallon tank and I am expecting too much from it.

I looked at the product specifications on their website and the 190 gallon/hour should give you a nice flow. I see also though that the flow can be adjusted. Have you looked into that? If you don't know how to do it: you can download an instruction manual from their website:

Thanks. Yes, that's what I thought...so maybe a new impeller will help. Yes, I do know how to adjust the flow. At max it is a gentle stream, and at min it practically stops. My 500 blows the fish's hair back on max.
I appreciate the help.
