I know many members have used these bags quite successfully. I believe they are discontinued or no longer in production (someone can correct me if I'm wrong), but they are available at CanadianAquariumConnection.com

Fantastic things for shipping, as they take less space, and the fish are not nearly as stressed. I get mine from CAC.

I am trying to find the best way to transport my fish, when the time comes, to come to Florida with me when I move there to meet up with my fiance that just moved there today.

You will have serious legal issues. They'll cost you close to $200 in permits. You can't really use breathers to transport Plecos, which destroy them, and I doubt breathers are big enough for your other fish.

Get ready for some serious border bureaucracy...

I frequently use breather bags. They are great for small fish transport over several days, even weeks. The problem is that because of their plastic composition they are more of a delicate membrane; even water will evaporate through them.

Spiny fish are not suited for breather bags. With such a short transit better off with heavy mil thickness plastic bags.

As for transport into the US, there is a lot to consider. You may want to begin researching the importation into the US, starting with the FDA. As GaryE mentioned, permits will be involved. Best of luck

Gary & Alex, I had talked to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife service and they sent me the DECLARATION FOR IMPORTATION OR EXPORTATION OF Fish or WILDLIFE form and also have the PERMIT APPLICATION
CONDITIONAL/PROHIBITED/NONNATIVE SPECIES FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION form.
I explained what I had and they said there would be no issues at all crossing into the U.S. or even into Florida.

I understand the process is way, way different for "pet" fish vs. importation for resale purposes. Much easier.

I explained they were pets & not for sale & they still had no issues.
All I need to do is make sure I have these 2 forms ready.

Wow. The local fish and wildlife will not allow me to give one pair of killies to a friend in Vermont, without $235 in permits. I hope it is different for you - maybe the fact you are going there to live helps and changes the game.
My difficulties may come with leaving gifts in the US.

I think that is what it may be. Sounds about right.
When I was on the phone with them last year, no fees were ever mentioned to me.

best way to ship them is to actually go overboard in a car with them..
Easier said than done.

In your thermos... if you get caught - your car gets dismantled and you get the full search every time you cross after - my wife would kill me.

I crossed a couple of summers ago alone and the US guard told me where my wife and kids sit in the car, named them and gave their ages while asking about where they were. You don't mess with the US border. Those computers, cameras and facial recognition programs never forget.

So young, so innocent.
But can't you simply declare the fish and bring them in with you?

That's a long **** drive from London ON to Tallahassee though. Plus, I don't think I'll be using my truck since it has a loan on it & TD won't let me.
