tank lights
hi gang
just starting to get back into aquariums. I have an LED light on my small tank ( soon to be replaced ). How long should my light be on each day? I have to java swords, so i'd like to give them the best chance i can to keep them going. I am thinking of putting my LED on a timer.
thanx

Re: tank lights
Hi Richard, welcome to the forum!
Can you tell me whether you have Java fern or Amazon swords? Both are low light plants but my experience with java fern is that they easily get covered in algae if they are under direct light.
I never give my tanks more than 8 hours of light/day. If the light is not strong and it is basically for viewing only, it doesn't matter if you put it longer.
If you want to minimise the chances of getting algae, set your timer up to give the tank 2x 4 hours of light with a break in between of at least 1 hr.

Re: tank lights
I believe it's a java fern after looking at some pics online.
