One of my pandas was swimming around for over a week with a large chunk of black beard algae (BBA) hanging from its mouth. I initially thought it was trying to eat it but after a week I saw the BBA coming out of it's gills. Tonight I caught it and we pulled it out the best we could with tweezers without damaging it's barbels. I'm not sure if we got all of it but I'm hoping it can digest the rest on its own.

Anyone else had an experience like this?

Though I haven't had cories for quite some time, I'd imagine that the algae would just be passed through the digestive tract.
It'll likely be just fine.

One minute you're swimming with your friends saying "look at me, I have a hipster beard!"

And the next minute some party killer is coming at you with tweezers....

He should be okay.

Hahaha, hipster beard indeed. What a relevant fish to keep up with the current trends like that......

It was funny he was carrying on his normal classic frantic Cory lifestyle with a chunk of BBA hanging from out of mouth. He'd school with the others and eat off the gravel around the BBA somehow. The entertainment never stops w Corys...

Thanks for the reassurance, team!

Oh my - what a sight to see, and a big thing to remove it! How is the panda cory doing now? Nice work, by the way...!

He/she seems fine as of last night. I didn't get much time to observe the tank yesterday but there were no lifeless bodies. To be honest, without the trendy beard I'd have a difficult time identifying which one it was!

Thanks for asking, Shell! Long time no see!

Oh! My! I just learned how to melt some of my plants with Excel trying to reduce some BBA...I looked for the right type of algae eater...but it seemed like the wrong variety was around.

I can *feel* this....my little cories are not so hip.

(I think I am getting how these forums work....I was so excited to know that I was not alone in BBA )
