first water change? Empty first water change?

Post by Biulu Wed Apr 08, 2015 7:46 am

I wonder when to do the first water change when raising new born fry. For the betta's it is easy as they are in a tank which is only half full of water, so the first 'changes' consist of adding water to the tank and dilute the pollutants.

However, I am raising the gobies in a container which has a limited amount of water and no filter. So, when should I do the first water change without the risk of drowning them?

Or maybe the question should be: at what point is it safe to move new born fry from a hatching container to a tank and ensure they can still easily get to the food?

No experience here on this exactly, but I'm now raising my third batch of krib fry (I know they are pretty hardy) but I would suspect that frequent small water changes would be the way to go as opposed to larger changes. You want to keep things as stable as possible for fry.

I managed to get some of the muck out with a turkey baster without sucking up fry.

Is there a picture on here of the fry I would love to see them if possible?

Yes, I actually posted some of them last night under the peacock goby thread.
